Winning one of the four Majors is considered the pinnacle of any golfer's career, and each one carries an enormous amount of prestige, history and money that other PGA Tour events simply don't.

1. The Masters
The Masters, held in April at the Augusta National Golf Club and founded by legendary golfer Bobby Jones and investment banker Clifford Roberts, is the first major of the year and, to me, the most prestigious of all.
First played in 1934, it is the only major to be played on the same course every year. With its picturesque Magnolia Lane entrance, famous fast greens, the par-3 tournament that precedes the Main Event, and the Champions' Dinner first hosted by Ben Hogan in 1952 to honor previous champions, The Masters is a tournament like no other. .
Since 1949, a green jacket has been awarded along with the cup, which means that the winner becomes an honorary member of the association. The jacket must be kept on site in Augusta, removal of the jacket is prohibited unless you are the current champion and can keep the jacket for 12 months.
Horton Smith won the first tournament in 1934 and took home $1,500 for the win. The reigning Masters champion is none other than Tiger Woods, who took home $2,070,000 for his 2019 win and now has 5 green jackets.
The event is unique in many ways, especially for the caddies who have their own uniform consisting of white overalls, white sneakers, and a green master's cap. In addition, the television cables are buried under the fairways so as not to detract from the impressive surroundings of the field. Television stations simply plug their cameras into each hole.
Unfortunately, Augusta is a private members' club, and unless you have the likes of Microsoft founder Bill Gates or former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (both members) on your speed dial, you don't have much of a chance of getting to play the exclusive field. The closest thing to seeing the beautiful azaleas that line the pristine fairways and greens is to get spectator tickets to the event.
2nd PGA Championship
Played in May, it is the second major of the year played at various courses in the US. It is played primarily on the East Coast and has been held 11 times in New York. Heading West this year in 2021 it will be played at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
It is the only major that does not invite leading amateur golfers to compete. The only way they can secure a spot is by winning one of the other three Majors or by winning another PGA Tour event through a sponsorship waiver.
The first PGA championship was held at the Siwanoy Country Club in New York in 1916 and was won by Jim Barnes. Prize money at the time was $500, with the winner also receiving the main trophy, donated by New York department store magnate Rodman Wanamaker.
The Wanamaker Trophy is a rather impressive piece of silver, weighing 34 pounds with a 27-inch diameter handle. From 1916 to 1959, the trophy was engraved with the winner's home club or place of residence. However, since 1960 it has been engraved with the name of the current champion and the venue.
The trophy disappeared for two years between 1928 and 1930.
After the win, 1928 champion Walter Hagen asked a taxi driver to drop him off at his hotel and never came. He eventually found himself at the factory where Hagen had his own brand of rackets manufactured.
Today, the winner receives a replica of the original Wanamaker trophy, as the original is on display at the PGA Gallery in Florida. They also get a smaller replica to keep forever. Brooks Koepka is the current champion, having won the event in both 2018 and 2019.
3. US Open
The US Open Championship is the third major of the year and takes place in June on the same weekend as Father's Day. The venue of the event changes from year to year and is traditionally known as the toughest of the four majors.
It is the only Major organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA) rather than the PGA and the event generates a lot of controversy as many players believe that course construction is often too difficult, resulting in the most challenging test. hard of the four Majors for professionals. .

4. The Open Championship
The last golf Major of the year, held in July, is The Open Championship, also known as The Open or The British Open. It is the only major held outside of the United States and is the oldest golf tournament in the world.
It will be played on a rotation of 10 of the best coastal golf courses spread across the UK. It gets its name from the idea that the tournament is supposedly "open" to all participants, both professional and amateur. However, this does not work in practice, as only a few of the core fans are invited to play.
The first event was held in Scotland in 1860 and was won by Scotsman Willie Park Sr. He was awarded a boxing-style belt known as the 'Challenge Belt', donated by the Earl of Eglinton.
The winner of the event was also named The Champion Golfer of the Year, a coveted title that is still used today and is coveted by all professional golfers. It was not until 1872 that the famous Claret Jug was introduced as a trophy along with the winner's medal. Both will be delivered to the winner today.
