Alhamdulillah for another chance to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Also known as Hari Raya Puasa, it is a victory day for us after striving to be the best version of ourselves spiritually, physically and socially with perseverance, hope and faith.
Unlike previous years since the pandemic, we are now able to return to mosques for Sunnah Aidilfitri prayer despite the measures still in place. This is due to our community's patience and diligence in ensuring that the situation does not worsen over the past two years. All of this has happened while the spirit of our religious practices continues to be revived and experienced together.
The joyful atmosphere of Aidilfitri is still here with us through the blessings gained in the month of Ramadan. It is against the spirit of victory over the lower self that we have been struggling as we develop virtuous and praiseworthy traits in the holy month. In fact, this year we can also visit our relatives.
For many of us who cannot join the congregation in the mosque for the Sunnah Aidilfitri prayer, we can still observe it in congregation with our family members or individually and intimately alone in the comfort of our own homes.
The Sunnah Aidilfitri prayer, also known asline phrase, is a highly recommended prayer (Sunnah Muakkadah). According to scholars, it is considered one of the most respected among other Sunnah prayers (Nawafil). Rasulullah never stopped performing this prayer as it was established for Muslims to perform.
The Sunnah Aidilfitri prayer is ideally performed in a congregation. However, it can also be done individually. In a period when we are still facing the global pandemic, we can continue to encourage this Sunnah by performing our Sunnah Aidilfitriprayer at home.
The period for performing the SunnahAidilfitri prayer is on the first day of Syawal, when the sun has fully risen approximately 30 minutes later.Syuruq(Dawn), which is around 7:30 am, and ends with the Zohor prayer time.
Here is a step by step guide to perform the Aidilfitri Sunnah prayer:
1.Recite the intention to perform the Aidilfitri Sunnah prayer
Recite the intention of the Aidilfitri Sunnah prayer:
I pray the year of Eid al-Fitr with two rak'ahs to Almighty God
Usolli sunnah 'idil fitri rak'atainilillah ta'ala
I intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of Aidilfitri two raka'at to Allah ta'ala
If you are praying in a congregation, the intentions for the Aidilfitri prayer are as follows.
The one who is leading the prayer as oneMagneticwould recite:
I pray the year of Eid al-Fitr with two rak'ahs in front of Almighty God
Usolli sunnata 'idil fitri rak'ataini imaamam lillah ta'ala
I intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of Aidilfitri as Imam two raka'at to Allah ta'ala
Hemother(follower) will recite this intention:
I pray the year of Eid al-Fitr with two units of prayer, Almighty God
Usolli sunnah 'idil fitri rak'ataini ma'muman lillah ta'ala
I intend to pray the Aidilfitri Sunnah prayer as the Ma'mum (follower), two rak'ats to Allah ta'ala
The following illustrations will guide you in Jema'ah prayer (in a congregation) at home:
Read these guidelines for praying in a congregation.
2. Realize Takbiratul Ihram
Takbiratul Ihramis is the act of raising the hands so that the thumbs are on the same level as the earlobes and the palms are on the same level as the shoulders.
To say 'Allahu Akbar’ while keeping your intention in mind.
3. Place your right hand over your left and recite Dua Iftitah
When administering Takbir, gently lower the hands to the chest and place the right hand over the left.
Recite the Dua Iftitah (Opening Dua) silently for the first raka'at only:
God is greater and praise be to God, to God, and praise be to God, and I have been fierce. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my life and my death are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds. He has no partner and with that he sent me, and I am from the Muslims.
Allahu Akbar Kabira,
Walhamdulillahi Kathira
Wa Subhānallāhi Bukratan Wa aṣīlā
Wajjahtu Wajhi-allazi Fatra-Samawāti wal-Ardh
Hanīfan-Muslim Wāmā es minal-musyrikīn
Inna ṣalātī, wanusukī wamahyayā, wamamātī Lillāhi rabino-'ālamīn
Día Syarīka lahu Wa Bidzālika Umirtu Wa Anā Minal Muslimīn

Allah, the Almighty, the Greatest
All praise be to him
Allah, most exalted of all, day and night
I stand before the one who created the heavens and the earth
I sincerely submit to Allah and I am certainly not among those who associate Allah with other beings.
Indeed, my Solat, my good deeds, my life and my death are all for Allah, the Lord of all worlds.
He has no partner or parallel, and I was ordained as such and am one of those who embrace Islam.
4. Casa 7x Takbir
After reciting the opening prayer (Dua Ifititah), raise your hand to give another Takbir (Allahu Akbar) 7 times. Place your hands on your chest after each Takbir, as per the standard standing position in prayer.
It is part of the Sunnah to recite the following between each Takbir in a low voice, even after the 7th Takbir:
Glory to God, praise to God, there is no god but God, and God is great
SubhanAllah Walhamdu-llillah Wa-La Ilaha Ilallahu Wallahu Akbar
If one gets confused about the number of Takbir recited, for example, reciting 8 Takbir instead of 7 Takbir, then it is ok. Makruh (dislikes) is considered, but the sentence is still valid.
If you have mistakenly confused the number of the recited Takbir and the number is still not clear, take the smaller number into account and continue from there.
Or if you mistakenly skip all 7 Takbir and recite Surah Al-Fatihah immediately after Takbiratul Ihram, then it is okay to continue with the prayer as this does not invalidate the Sunnah prayer. However, leaving 7 Takbir unintentionally is Makrooh (I don't like it).
On the other hand, it is important to clarify that the 7 Takbir mentioned do not include the Takbiratul Ihram (Opening of the Takbir).
5. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha and other Surah from Quran
Once the 7 Takbir have been performed, recite the Ta'awwudz (Take refuge in Allah s.w.t) in a low voice:
I seek refuge in Allah from accursed Satan
A`udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ar-rajim
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan
And then read Surah Al-Fatiha:
In the name of God, most forgiving, most merciful. Thank God, Lord of all worlds. More merciful. Owner of Judgment Day. Beware of the worship and His help we seek. Show us the straight path. Way, who bestowed them is not anger, and who lost
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm.
Alḥamdulillahi Rabbil-ālamīn.
Ar-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm.
Maliki yawmid-din.
iyyāKa naʿbudu wa-iyyāKa nastaʿīn.
Ihdināṣ-ṣirāṭal-mustaqīm.
ṣirāṭallazīna anʿamTa ʿalayhim ghayril-maghḍūbi ʿalayhim wa-lāḍ-ḍāllīn.

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Praise be to God, Lord of all worlds.
The Compassionate, the Merciful. Ruler on the Day of Judgment.
You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help.
Guide us along the straight path,
the path of those who have received your grace;
not the way of those who have cast down wrath, nor that of the lost.
Amen.
After completion of Surah Al-Fatiha recitation, you can read any memorized Surah you like. For the second raka'at, it is recommended to choose a verse that does not precede the first one in the order of the Qur'an. For example, you can read Surah Al-'Asr in the first raka'at and read Surah Al-Ikhlas in the second.
6. Complete the first raka'at
Bow forward to Ruku'
Di Allahu Akbar (Intiqal Takbiratul) during the transition from standing to crouching for Ruku', while raising the hands as explained above in the Takbiratul Ihram. Gently lower your hands to your knees as we move into Ruku's position.
say three times
Glory to my Lord the Great and with His praise
Subhana Rabial Azim wabihamdih
Glory to Allah, the Mighty, and praise be to Him
Stand Upright - I'tidal
After completing your Ruku', return to a standing position while raising your hands as in the Takbiratul Ihram position and recite during the transition:
Allah hears those who praise him
Sami 'Allah liman hamidá
Allah has heard the one who praises him
Lower your hands gently. When in the fully erect position, recite:
Our Lord, to Thee be praised
Rabbana wala Kal-hamd
O our Lord, to Thee are all praises
Run the first sujud
Prostrate while saying Allahu Akbar. Let your knees touch the floor first, then your palms, then your forehead. While in the first Sujud, recite three times:
Glory to my Lord, the Most High, and His praise
Subhānna Rabbiya l-A'lā wa bihamdih
Glory to my Lord, the Most High, and praise be to Him
sit on your knees
Between the two Sujud, rise from prostration to a sitting position on your knees while saying Allahu Akbar. From a seated position, say:
Lord, forgive me and have mercy on me and compel me and lift me up and provide for me and guide me and heal me and forgive me
Rabbighfirlī wa-rhamnī wa-jburnī wa-rfa'nī wa-rzuqnī wa-hdinī wa-'āfinī wa'fu 'annī
Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, cover my defects, raise my position, provide for me, guide me, give me well-being and forgive me.
Run the second sujud
Then return to the prostration position to complete the second Sujud and repeat the aforementioned recitation.
By completing the above steps, you have completed the first raka'at.
7. Return to standing position - Give 5 x Takbir
Return to standing position while saying Allahu Akbar (Takbiratul Intiqal). Start the Second Raka'at with another 5 Takbir (Allahu Akbar) as explained in No. 4. Between each Takbir recite:
Glory to God, praise to God, there is no god but God, and God is great
SubhanAllah Walhamdu-llillah Wa-La Ilaha IlAllahu WAllahu Akbar
8. Recite Surah Al-Fatiha and other Surah from Quran
See no. 5 above.
9. Complete the second raka'at
After reciting Surah Al-Fatiha and following with another Surah from the Qur'an, repeat the steps mentioned in #6 to complete the second raka'at.
Recite or final Tasyahhud
Complete the sentence by reciting the final Tasyahhud:
Greetings, blessings and good prayers to God. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and God's mercy and blessings be upon you. Peace be upon us and the righteous servants of Allah
Prayer At-tahiyyatul mubarakatuṣ-ṣalawātuth. Assalamualaika ayyuhan-nabiyyu of the merciful and blessed. Peace be with you
Raise your right index finger and say:
I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
Asyhadu an lā ilāha illallāh, wa asyhadu anna Muhammadar Rasoolullāh
Continue with the selawat:
O God, pray for Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you prayed for the family of Abraham, you are a glorious praise, O God, I bless you with authority
Allahumma ṣalli 'ala Muhammadin, wa 'ala āli Muhammad, kāma ṣallaita 'ala 'āli Ibrāhīma, innaka Hamīdun Majīd. Allahumma bārik 'ala Muhammadin, wa 'ala ali Muhammad, kama bārakta 'ala ali Ibrāhīma, innaka Hamīdun Majīd
O Allah, bestow your blessings on Muhammad and Muhammad's family, just as you bestowed your blessings on Ibrahim's family. Truly you are Praised and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and Muhammad's family as you blessed Ibrahim's family. Truly you are Praised and Glorious
10. Finish with Salam
Turn your head sideways, starting right, so anyone behind you can see your cheek and say
God's peace and mercy
Assalamu alaykum wa-rahmatullah
Allah's peace and mercy be upon you
11.Listen to the Khutbah
The Khutbah after the prayer is not part of the Integrals (your back) for the Aidilfitri prayer as for the Friday prayer. It is considered a Sunnah (encouraged) to perform the Aidilftri prayer when performed in congregation. Therefore, you do not need to deliver the khutbah at home to complete the prayer.
After observing his Sunnah Aidilfitri prayer, you can listen to the khutbah. Thekhutbah, which will be streamed live, is available on SalamSG TV YouTube and Facebook at 7.40am in Malay with English subtitles.
With your merit highly appreciated in the eyes of Allah s.w.t. and the joyful spirit of Aidilfitri, may this year's Aidilfitri Sunnah prayer be more meaningful. Let us begin a new phase of our journey with devotion to the One who brings good news and victory.
And Allah knows best.
